Just Attend an English Class in Singapore

How many of you spend at least a couple of hours watching TV or maybe watching online videos? Since the invention of social media and since the propagation of the Internet, a lot of us has gained access to easy information and a lot of videos too. We can all agree that they are entertaining but really, if you just go online, you would notice that a lot of stuff that is available are mostly in foreign language. So in order to understand them, what do we do? We turn on the subtitles—that is right.
But this is usual especially now that it is summer. And because it is summer, a lot of kids have this time to actually do what they want: go outdoors, take a swim and join sports clinics. Actually the choices are plenty! But if you are unlike the common kids, you would be surprised at what you would like to learn at summer.
What are Things I Can Do?
If you're a parent, you will definitely agree when we say that there are kids who are interested in different stuff. Some in sports, in games, some in academics that even during school breaks they care to learn something new. Like a foreign language. This is the reason why some schools offer a schedule for English tuition. In Singapore, these advanced English classes range from course for kids to a course on English tuition for secondary school teens.
We understand that they ought to take a break too but for some children, being highly conversant in a second language is exciting for them. Imagine, they would be able to watch foreign films or series without the use of a subtitles. Not just that, studies show that learning or mastering another language helps reduce the risk of developing certain brain illnesses. Thus, enrolling in an English class in Singapore could be away for children to develop another skill and to be healthier in the long run too.
How Can It Help?
We know that the excitement of being part of this class lies on the idea that a lot of kids could be joining too, right? But more than just the help for foreign entertainment it can give, if you are going to look at the future, you would see that being fluent in a foreign language can give your children advantage should they come to that age when they would go to work.
You see, everything we do is internationally done. We import and export. Thus, all our businesses involve liaising with different companies and some of which are foreign owned. What does this tell us? This tells us that people who can be fluent in another language, particularly English which is internationally recognized, would give them a better chances of landing a good job. But of course, we are not limiting them. Should there be a time when your kids would want to be entrepreneurs then, this can help them find partners globally too. So, why not enroll now. Anyway, summer classes only last a month.

Do You Need English Enrichment Centre?

They say that learning a second language is ideal for most of us as studies show that it helps the brain become more alert and reduces the risk of some neuro related defects. But more than just the physiological reasons, it can also be good when it comes to economic reasons. Here is why: if you get to choose to learn a foreign language, it increases your chances of employability as well.

Look everywhere and tell us what you notice. Almost every product out there is either imported or exported. This only tells us that our trade has become more diverse that we really include products exchange with foreign partners to give sufficient supply of needs. It could be technological or biological. It doesn’t matter. Given that the world today has been open to international transactions, we would need liaisons.

What Would That Be Good For?

Each country has a different language, right? Now, communication is an essential part of any field as each transaction we have relies on language, be local or international. Now, just try to imagine what is going to happen if there comes a time when nobody could understand each other. Disaster, yes? That is right! How can two parties land on a deal if they do not really understand each other? So, in order to fix this, what would you do? Try and learn a foreign language. Not just learn but be fluent in it.

One of the languages learned around the globe is English. It is understood by most people as such, it is never too late to look for an English enrichment centre here in Singapore and enroll in their classes. Second-language acquisition has been given huge emphasis in Singapore because it is undeniably very important in reaching economic development nationally.

If you ask around, a lot of citizens enroll in language lessons not only to learn basic grammar but to improve their conversation levels. Hence, if you already understand and know Basic English, it's time you develop being conversant with it. As such, it would not really be difficult to look for English enrichment courses in Singapore.

Online vs. Real Class

Most people who would really be good speakers of the language would really invest in it. But one of the considerations would be budget. That is everyone’s top priority. And since some have tight budget, they would go for online tutorials. That could also be good but if you do want a monitored and well planned learning, the being in an actual classroom would be better.

Yes, online classes could be free but then, these lessons are designed for people who would like to learn the bass only. Lessons in centers are advanced to teach you how to use English in actual conversations. Moreover, you get a completion certificate, too. And this important if you are planning to use this for your advantage when it comes to work. Certifications would really come in handy especially if your employers would look for it.

So, do not worry about the budget. Learning is fun and affordable.

Benefits of Taking a Language Course

We all know that it is not easy to learn a different language. This is true especially if you did not grow up speaking the language you are trying to learn. You may be able to learn a couple of phrases, some words, but as long as you are not being taught by a professional, you have trouble learning the language even after years of studying it.

There are even some people who knows how to speak a certain language they have learned, but they do not know how to write in that language. Mostly because these people are either self-taught or have only been learning from a friend or someone they know that speaks it. Well, there is really nothing wrong with learning a language by your own way and whenever you just feel like it but it would really pay off if you are to take an actual learning course for it. For example, there are Thai lessons here in Singapore that can not only teach you how to speak Thai but also how to read and write in the language. Now, if you want to learn mandarin here in Singapore, it would be best for you to look for the nearest learning centre where you can get the course. A lot of people prefer taking a mandarin language course here in Singapore due to the fact that the majority of people that resides in the country is Chinese. This makes foreigners want to learn the language specially if they are considering living in Singapore.

This does not mean that you can only learn these languages though, since there are other learning centers that can provide French or even an English course. Well, it would not really matter what language you are interested in taking, what you need to make sure of is that you are taught the right way of reading, writing, as well as how to speak the language as naturally as possible.

What are the benefits that you can expect in taking a language course?

As the name suggests, a language course would already have lesson plans ready and various activities to help you out on being more familiar with the language you are interested in. It can be in the form of tests, discussions, or oral practice, and you can expect to actually learn the right way and avoid less confusion which usually happens whenever you study a language using your own resources.

With that being said, you are actually helping yourself to save time in learning the language because instead of trying to learn speaking mandarin on your own for the next decades, it might just even take you about a year. You get to learn from professionals who are actually licensed to teach the language to others. What is more is that you also get to be fluent not just in oral, but also in written format. Reading and writing is just as important as speaking and listening or being able to understand.

Another one of the major benefits of taking up language learning courses is the fact that you would be able to avoid literal translation which usually happens for those who try to learn the language on their own. Literal translation is basically a word for word translation of a certain language. We must be aware that grammar works differently in most and every language. Because remember, if you are to translate something word by word, you are probably not going to make any sense at all.

Deciding on What Path To Take

Every parent’s dream is to see their child succeed in life happily whether they decide to be a barber, a scientist, or even a painter. That is why they have always been there in whatever career we have chosen to pursue. Through achieving your goal as a scientist, painter, or barber, remember that life has different ways of nurturing us. Therefore, people have various learning capacities, but one should not limit his knowledge. He must explore and expound by learning from different people, institutions, and circumstances. This way, you can be sure what you really want to achieve in life. Primary and secondary education may be boring and tedious, but these are your foundation which helps you determine what you want to pursue in life. Before discarding your education and dropping out of school, you have to weigh the consequences of your actions and internalize what are the factors you will be missing if you do this. Never put education at the back of your mind for a wise man is better than a rich fool.

Once you have made a decision on what path you will undertake to achieve a certain goal, you will accomplish this. Of course, there will be hurdles to face and challenges to overcome, but that will be nothing once you have become a respectable doctor or a well-renowned barber. In following their goals, people have had made different decisions based on various reasons. Some have left school to pursue knowledge in a different manner. Still, they are pursuing knowledge to be the best version of themselves. So, in whatever you do, make decisions based on being a better person and being a more knowledgeable person.

It is true that education is not easy and it is also not cheap. When you have graduated and have collected your diploma, it would be counted as one of the happiest day of your life. For years, you have suffered subjects like combined humanities , drunk loads of caffeine just to finish a project, and cried yourself to sleep when you failed an exam. Nevertheless, all of the hardships you have encountered will not be for naught. Paying for extra lessons on combined humanities from a tuition centre  will not be for naught. In fact, they will be stepping stones as you become a responsible adult and a respectable citizen. You may even teach your relatives instead of letting them pay combined humanities tuition .

Stay true and keep your feet on the ground. Strive for knowledge and never be content with anything less from perfection. You deserve more and you can be more. People can let you down, but you can rise up from failures and disappointments. Your primary and secondary education have equipped you to know essential background information regarding a wide range of topics. It is in your hands whether you will study a specific subject in detail and pursue a higher degree of education. There are also other options such as learning it from a different way. Though not a lot of people tend to choose this path, it can be done. Do not limit yourself in the perimeters the world has created for you and decide on whichever makes you happy.

Do not set yourself up for failure. Explore and be more. Be more than what they expected you to be.

5 Tips to Persuade Your Kid Join a Reading Program for KIds

Kindergarten is not all about playing and building things using the toys around the children. Kindergarten is also a place where children are taught the basics of the alphabet, numbers, things, and figures. The preschool reading program has a basic framework aligned to the age of the child. However, there are times when kids are not actively engaged in reading because all they know is play and goof around. How do we encourage them to like and enjoy reading? Can we do it even after school? Do we need to enrol them in a reading program for kids? Fret not! Here are the following tips to encourage your child to join a reading program for children.

1. Make your child feel that it is okay to make mistakes while reading. There are times when a child no longer wants to try reading again because he is afraid to mispronounce a word or because he has no idea on how to say it. When teaching your kids to read, it is always better that you read it first and then read it aloud together. In this way, you have the opportunity to hear and discover your kid’s pronunciation and test his knowledge retention. Make your everyday routine a reading day! You can boost your child’s confidence while reading by asking him to read words and signs while you are in the grocery, in the park or in the streets.

2. Start with the reading materials that would spike up your child’s interest. Perhaps your child has a pet dog, you can start by buying books about dogs. In this way, your preschool kid won’t feel pressured because he might think that you are also interested in what he or she likes without even realising that you are observing and teaching him to read and comprehend.

3. Pay a visit to the library. “I am not fascinated in the huge amount of books inside the library!” said no kid ever. While inside the library, let your kid choose the book that he wants to read. You can read it silently together or just let him feel the crisp pages of the book in his hand. If he is engaged enough, you may raise questions regarding the book and if he answered it correctly or not, you may make a promise to pay a visit to another “cool” library in town.

4. Bedtime stories are very effective. Make it a habit to read bedtime stories to your kids. Remember it takes 21 days to make a habit and children usually mimic other people’s behaviour. According to studies, imitating the sounds of animals by reading the stories tend to stimulate part of the auditory cortex. The child usually remembers these things if done repeatedly.

5. Make it a point to have a reading nook inside your home. It is like a comfort zone but more on the interior aspect. Setting the reading mood of your child is fun. A good headlamp or lamppost would be of great help. Beanbags is also child-friendly and it will make the child very comfortable while reading.

As children reach their studying or learning age, it is suggested that they experience schooling even at a young age. Likewise, the program aims to encourage young people to read more and more to improve their comprehension. Letting kindergarten students write also help them communicate their ideas in the form of words. It may be a letter to their parents, friends, or neighbours. Through writng, the students’ emotions or feelings are being expressed without any hesitations.

2. Values fitness and physical activities. Young students love to play. There’s no doubt about that. That’s why many preschool programs cater to their interests in playing and sports. It may be a simple act of role playing or exercises where they have to work on their own or work closely with their classmates. In addition, their interest to play and have fun are not the only things given attention here but also their social and emotional skills are being developed.

3. Boosts self confidence and achievement. Some kindergarten classes include literacy and language arts. This type of approach is a sure way of significantly boosting a student’s self-esteem and his sense of achievement. Students enrolled in this program get to improve their mastery of the English language and even heighten their interest in reading.

4. Improves social skills. Whether it’s a reading class or a physical activity, a kindergarten program is designed to improve and develop the student’s social skills. He is surrounded with different kids who are with the same age as his. He interacts with them and learns how to play with them in a calm, peaceful, and rewarding manner.

5. Teaches the value of respect. When in the class, students, even at a young age, are expected to pay respect not only to the elders, but also to their teachers and classmates. Kindergarten students become more aware of themselves and conscious of their acts. When they see two elders talking, they are advised to stay quiet or when they notice their classmates reading this certain book, they will wait for them to finish it.

6. Exposes to new people, ideas, and concepts. There’s no minimum age when it comes to learning, socialising, or sharing new ideas. Students in kindergarten schools are given the opportunities to meet new people and befriend them. Likewise, it is an appropriate venue to express their ideas, no matter how childish or silly it is.

These are just some of the benefits of kindergarten programs and all of these can be helpful to the children. Other schools also provide support for students with special needs and resources to community support services.

Discover 5 Things About International Schools in Singapore

International schools spread like mushrooms in Singapore. It has been a thriving business because of the positive feedback from the students, parents, and alumni. It is somewhat similar to the junior term abroad being offered by other universities because at an early age, the kids are focused on understanding their classmates’ culture, and individuality. So, what makes an international school? How is this different from the regular school? Do students really benefit from these schools? Here are the factors that make up the best international school.

1. The school should follow a local or an international curriculum from a specific country or has the IB Curriculum as its framework. Most of the international schools in Singapore follow the IB curriculum or the International Baccalaureate curriculum. This type of course acts as the school’s structure in cultivating the learners for every year level. International Baccalaureate offers different types of program such as PYP – Primary Years Program, MYP – Middle Years Program, DP – Diploma Program and CRP/CP – Career Related Program. Some international schools follow other countries’ curriculum (i.e American, German curriculum etc.) because they believe that these types of curriculum produce better results in teaching the young.

2.  The school should have a transition plan for students coming in at any time and date of the year. A transition plan best works for children of expatriates because even if they transfer from half way across the world, they are still able to continue their studies and move on to the succeeding grade level with or with minimal delay in timeframe. The students are able to catch up with the lessons without repeating what they have started in their homeland.

3. The school should have interracial faculties and students. An international school is not called an international school if they only cater to locals. The more diverse the culture is, the more your kid will grasp the concept of belonging and confidence in interacting to different kids from all over the globe.

4. The method of instruction is bilingual or in English. English is commonly used as the method of instruction in international schools because it is understood by many students even if they are of different continents and nationalities. Local dialect can also be used as a form of communication because these schools provide mother tongue programs for kids.

5. It has a variety of activities related to international studies. Most international schools observe the holidays of each country in respect for individualism and cultural differences. They often hold programs in commemoration of these dates with the participation of other students from different nationalities. These programs help the students to identify and understand these different festivities by immersing themselves in the same.

6. The school has met the standards set by the International Association of School Libraries (IASL). When choosing an international school, parents should take into consideration the following criteria set by the IASL: A moving population (higher than in national public schools), an international curriculum, international accreditation, bilingual language instruction, non-selective student enrolment, multinational and multi lingual student body, moving population, and transferability of students.
